The Shark APEX UpLight Vacuum: Should You Still Buy It in 2022?
Shark is a household name across the country. They have been building some of the best vacuum cleaners for years. There’s a good chance you probably have a Shark-branded product in your tool closet right now!
Among the top models they have ever released is the Shark Apex uplight vacuum. The Shark APEX UpLight became super popular when it was first released a few years ago due to its relatively affordable price point, high performance, and beautiful and lightweight design.
But it’s been a couple of years now since it first debuted. Is it still a good purchase in 2022?
Here’s TheKingLive team’s take on this question!
Performance
We took the review unit out of storage and ran it once again through a battery of performance tests. Surprisingly, even after several years, the Shark APEX UpLight still ran very well.
It was able to suck up virtually all traces of dust, dirt, and debris on bare floors. Even stubborn debris that most vacuums have problems dealing with like pet hair and cereal bits were promptly dealt with in a few passes.
While the Apex UpLight did fine in our test on low-pile carpeting, the vacuum struggled with cleaning high-pile carpeting. It left nearly half of the dirt and debris in the thick piling of our shaggy rug.
All in all, the Shark APEX UpLight still has an excellent cleaning capability. If cleaning performance is your number one concern, you won’t be disappointed with this one.

Design
The Shark APEX UpLight is meant to be a stick vacuum. As a result, compared to full-size upright vacuum models, it is a lot lighter and more compact.
The vacuum weighs around 12 pounds when fully assembled. But on the floor and held in hand, you will only feel around 4 pounds.
It is definitely a compact vacuum cleaner. The Shark APEX UpLight is 45 inches tall and around 11 inches wide. You shouldn’t have much issue finding a good place to store it. A corner of your tool shed or of a room in the house will do the trick.
User Maintenance
The vacuum requires a lot of maintenance, unfortunately. Other than taking care of the dust cup (which can hold about 0.18 gallons of dirt), you will also need to check its brush roll and air filters regularly.
If you don’t, the cleaning performance of the vacuum will decrease. Long-term neglect may lead to major damages to the vacuum’s sensitive machineries.
Fortunately, most of the parts on the vacuum—if you maintain them well—won’t require regular replacements. The air filters can last for months to years before having to be switched out.

Accessories
The vacuum comes with a bundle of accessories. In the box, you will find:
-
A turbo brush to help you clean pet hair.
-
A crevice tool to help you reach into tight, awkward spaces around the house.
-
A hard bristle brush. You can use it to clean hard, solid surfaces around the house like tabletops and shelves.
-
An extension wand to increase the reach of the vacuum.

Conclusion
All in all, the Shark APEX UpLight is still an excellent vacuum cleaner in 2022. It’s no longer in production, though, so you may have trouble finding a new one. But if you know where to look, because it’s now considered a “vintage”, you will be able to find some good deals.
Good luck!
